不定冠词a和an 用于可数名词的单数之前,表示某类人或事物中的“一个”,相当于汉语中的“一个”,但不强调数目观念,没有 one 强烈。

My father is a teacher .

Do you like a banana or a pear ?

A bird can fly .

用于某些固定词组中

C. 用于第一次提到的和泛指的单数可数名词如: There is a cat in the livingroom .

Do you have a pen ?

D.不定冠词a用在以辅音音素开

头的单词前面，an 用在以元音音素开头的单词前面。如:

a book an old woman

a girl an elephant

注:用a或 an 不取决于它后面单词的第一个字母,而取决于这个单词的第一个音素。例如:hour[‘aue]表示一个小时要用 an hour.

二.定冠词 the 的用法

A 指上文提到的人或事物。

如:-There is a dog in the room

.

The dog is mine .

B. 特指某(些)人或某(些)事物。如:

This is the picture of the house

C.指说话双方都知道的人或事物。

Where is the ball？

It’s on the sofa .

D.用在表示世界上独一无二的事物的名词前。如: the sun ,the moon , the sky , the earth ,the Great Wall, the Yellow River ,the West Lake

E.用在由普通词和形容词或另外一些词构成的专有名词前。如:

The united kindom

the United Nations

the People’s Daily

the No.1 bus stop

F.用在一些习惯用语中。如:

in the morning all the time

look the same on the left

三.不用冠词的情况

A.一般在不可数名词和专有名词前,不能用冠词。如: Beijing , USA, China, milk, tea

B.表示季节、月星期几等名称前，一般不用冠词。

Winter is cold.

It’s Monday today。

C. 复数名词表示一类人或事物时,不用冠词

I don’t like pears.

They are workers

D.名词前已有作定语的this, that, my, your, whose, some, any 等代词时,不用冠词。

This is my book .

Where is my bag ?

E.称呼前面不用冠词。

I can’t go home so early,Mike .

Mum!

Where is my pen ?

F .三餐饭的名称前常常不用冠词。

I often eat my breakfast at 8 o’clock.

After lunch, we will take a nap .

G. 球类运动、棋类游戏等名词前不用冠词。

John likes playing football .

H. 节日、假日等名词前。
