Last July, my mom took me to Jiuzhaigou, which is a popular tourist spot in the south of China. It’s a place I’d always wanted to visit, so I could finally cross it out from my bucket list.

This place is lousy with tourists during August, ‘cause the scenery is the most fascinating during that period of time. My summer vacation happens to be in the peak season, so you can imagine how many people were there, and there were long lines in front of the gate, we waited for… like 2 hours before we entered, which was kind of a bummer. But it didn’t kill the fun at all, ‘cause the gorgeous views really made up for it.

There’s one funny thing about this place I have to mention. It’s actually a small village, but it has so many “oceans”. The truth is, they are all lakes, but the locals just call them ocean ‘cause they’ve never seen real ones. And the views around those lakes were breathtaking! I mean, the water is crystal clear with an azure color, we could see the fishes and roots of the trees clearly. And sometimes, the water has more than just one color, which is incredible, you know. Although it rained a lot, it never made the place less attractive. And when the weather is nice, we could see the lake shimmering in the sunlight.

This idyllic place could really help take my mind off things. I mean, it’s hard for someone to get upset or have a heavy heart in such a pleasant environment.

语言点解析：

cross something out / through = to draw a line through a word, usually because it is wrong

bucket list = A list of accomplishments or tasks one hopes to do or achieve before one dies. “Bucket” here is taken from the phrase “kick the bucket,” meaning to die. 例如：

Sky-diving is the number-one thing on my bucket list.

lousy with = having too much of something or too many people 例如：

The hotels are always lousy with people during the peak season. (=when most people are on holiday/vacation)

peak = [only before noun] used to describe the highest level of something, or a time when the greatest number of people are doing something or using something 例如：

It was a time of peak demand for the product.

March is one of the peak periods for our business.

The athletes are all in peak condition.

We need extra help during the peak season.

a bummer = a disappointing or unpleasant situation 例如：

It’s a real bummer that she can’t come.

make up for something = to do something that corrects a bad situation = compensate 例如：

Nothing can make up for the loss of a child.

After all the delays, we were anxious to make up for lost time.

Her enthusiasm makes up for her lack of experience.

A warm and sunny September made up for a miserable wet August.

shimmer =

to shine with a soft light that seems to move slightly 例如：

The surface of the road shimmered in the midday heat.

a heavy heart = a feeling of great sadness 例如：

She left her children behind with a heavy heart.
